Using Digests
Bundle multiple articles into a single delivery to your Kindle.
Digests let you bundle saved articles from your library into a single EPUB and send the collection as one delivery.
Before you start
To use digests, you'll need a PushToReader account, at least one article saved in your Library, and Kindle delivery configured in Settings. Your PTR address also needs to be added to Amazon's approved senders list. See Getting Started and How to Add PushToReader to Your Kindle Approved Senders if you haven't done that yet.
How digest delivery works
Digests are built from articles you've already saved to your Library. When you click Send Now, PushToReader compiles the queued articles into a single EPUB and sends it to the Kindle email address you've configured in Settings.
Each digest keeps its own queue of articles and its own delivery history. You can keep multiple digests, but each digest is sent manually, one delivery at a time.
Creating a digest
Open the Digests page
Go to Digests from the main navigation.
Create a new digest
Click New Digest. In the dialog that appears, give your digest a name (e.g. "Weekend Reading").
Start adding articles
You'll land on the digest detail page, ready to add articles.
Adding articles
Open the article picker
On the digest detail page, click Add Articles.
Select articles from your library
Search or scroll through your library to find articles. Check the box next to each article you want to include.
Confirm your selection
Click Add Selected to add the checked articles to your digest. They'll appear in the article queue.
Articles already in the digest
Articles that are already queued in the digest won't appear in the picker, so you don't need to worry about duplicates.
Reordering articles
The order of articles in the queue determines the chapter order in the final EPUB.
Drag to reorder
Use the grip handle on the left side of each article to drag it to a new position.
Save or discard
A bar appears at the bottom of the page with Save Order and Discard buttons. Click Save Order to confirm, or Discard to revert to the previous order.
Removing articles
Click the remove button on any article to take it out of the digest. This only removes it from the digest -- the article stays in your library.
Size limits
A progress bar on the digest detail page shows the estimated size of your digest relative to the 30 MB delivery limit.
30 MB delivery limit
If the estimated size exceeds 30 MB, the Send Now button is disabled. Remove articles until the size is under the limit.
Sending a digest
Make sure the digest is ready
Before sending, make sure the digest has at least one queued article and is under the 30 MB limit shown on the page.
Send the digest
Click Send Now. PushToReader begins compiling your queued articles into a single EPUB and sending it to your configured Kindle destination.
Watch the status
The page shows delivery progress as it moves through each stage: Queued, Compiling, then Delivered or Failed.
Check your Kindle
Once the status shows Delivered, the digest should arrive on your Kindle within a few minutes.
Delivery takes a few minutes
After PushToReader finishes compiling, Amazon still needs to process and deliver the file. Most digests arrive within 1 to 5 minutes.
What can block sending?
If Send Now is disabled or a digest doesn't send right away, check these common causes:
- The digest has no queued articles yet.
- The estimated size is over 30 MB.
- A delivery for this digest is already in progress. PushToReader only allows one active delivery per digest at a time.
If a delivery is already running, stay on the digest page and watch the existing status update instead of trying to start a second send.
Delivery history
Each time you send a digest, the delivery is recorded on the digest detail page. You can expand a delivery entry to see which articles were included, along with the article count and file size for that delivery.
After a successful delivery, the sent articles move out of the current queue and into that delivery's history entry. The articles still remain in your Library, and you can start building the next digest right away.
Renaming and deleting
Click the pencil icon next to the digest name to rename it. Click Delete to remove a digest you no longer need.
Why can't I delete a digest?
Digests that have been sent at least once have delivery history. PushToReader preserves these digests so you can review past deliveries. You can still rename the digest or remove queued articles from it.
